Skagerak Denmark – Designed for Generations

The above is how Skagerak Denmark has worded its slogan for years. The slogan covers several key aspects of their activities, approaches and actions. In one respect it means that they make their products to last for generations, both aesthetically and in terms of design, and that design is and has been one of their most important guiding principles for generations. Just as importantly, it means that through their actions, decisions and priorities they consider the needs of coming generations. Thus their slogan relates directly to their environmental policy.

Quality is environmental responsibility

Skagerak Denmark continuously endeavors to provide the highest quality possible throughout the value chain. Accordingly, quality also involves an environmentally responsible manufacturing process based on sustainable, renewable resources and – just as importantly – respecting the people who in one way or another are affected by the manufacture of their products.

Environmental responsibility deals with more than just the use of sustainable resources. It also entails the service life of their products. When you choose a quality product in a design you like, it will last many years – in terms of both its functionality and its aesthetic qualities. As a result, you minimise the environmental impact of the extraction of raw materials, manufacture and transport. Whether a set of furniture lasts twenty years or has to be replaced four or five times during the course of twenty years makes a big difference – also in terms of the environment.

Skagerak Denmark’s products are mainly manufactured in Thailand and Indonesia.

Skagerak Denmark works together with a handful of suppliers for whom they are a large customer and to whom they are committed to a long-standing partnership. This enables them to maximise their influence on the manufacturing processes and conditions at the supplier companies and thus work to achieve ongoing environmental improvements.

For instance, it is crucial for occupational health that employees do not have to work in dust-filled environments. Accordingly, they have been instrumental in bringing about the installation and commissioning of ventilation systems at several of their external suppliers.

At the same time, they ensure that basic safety gear is available in the form of ear protectors, protective goggles and masks and they make sure the employees are thoroughly trained in how to use the gear.

For the very reason that their working relationship with external suppliers is long-term, the suppliers are open to dialogue which they continuously make use of to develop and improve the working environment of the employees. All suppliers of Skagerak Denmark must also adopt their Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct

All manufacturers of Skagerak Denmark products adopt a Code of Conduct through which they undertake not to use child labour, to buy all wood legally, to ensure optimum working conditions for employees and to participate actively in making ongoing improvements of manufacturing conditions for the purpose of maximising plant safety, etc.
